How City Year works
City Year is an after-school program that helps kids in need get a good education. It's like summer camp, only for kids! If you're interested in signing your child up for City Year, here's how to do it:
1. Go to the City Year website and sign up. You'll need your zip code and the name of the school your child will be attending. (Note: City Year does not operate in all districts; check with your district for more information.)
2. Once you've registered, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to login to the portal. Once you've logged in, you'll be able to see your child's account and easily make changes to their profile.
3. Once your child is registered and has a profile on the portal, they're ready to start learning! In order to enroll them in a class or activity, first find their school on their map, then click "Enroll." You can also find classes and activities by searching their database. Or if you just want to see what's going on at their school right now, check out their live blog!
What are the benefits of being a City Year volunteer?
There are many reasons why people choose to become City Year volunteers. To start, City Year provides a unique opportunity to engage with and serve the community in a hands-on way. Volunteers also receive training and support from City Year staff, which helps them to be successful partners in their neighborhoods. Finally, City Year offers volunteerism as a way to create lasting change in the community.
How to apply to be a City Year volunteer
If you're interested in volunteering with City Year, their how-to guide will help you get started. First, create an account on their website. You'll also need to provide contact information for two people who can vouch for your commitment to community service. Finally, upload a photo of yourself ( passport size or larger is ideal).
