As a city government, Chicago has a responsibility to be as transparent as possible with its data. That's why the city launched the Open Data Portal in early 2018 - an online portal that makes all of the city's data available for anyone to access and use.
In this tutorial, we'll show you how to login and use the Open Data Portal Chicago.
Logging In
If you are a Chicago resident and have a Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) account, you can login to the Open Data Portal using your CDOT credentials. If you do not have a CDOT account, or if you would like to create an account, visit the Open Data Portal website and follow the instructions on how to create an account. Once you have logged in, click on the "My Account" button at the top-right of the portal homepage. From here, you can view your active data requests, add new data requests, or manage your data requests.
Creating an account
If you don't already have an account, create one now. Once you have an account, follow these steps to login:
1. Click on the "login" link in the top right corner of the homepage.
2. Enter your login information and hit the "sign in" button.
3. You'll be taken to a page where you can select which sections of the portal you want to view. Click on "My Data" in the section list to see all of your data sources!
Managing your account
If you haven't already, create an account on the Open Data Portal Chicago website. Once your account is created, click on the "Personal Profile" link in the top right corner of the homepage. This will take you to a page where you can establish your personal identity and manage your account information.
On this page, you'll need to enter your name and email address. You'll also need to provide a password. Make sure that you remember this password! You'll use this password to login to your account later on.
Once you have logged in, click on the "My Content" tab at the top of the page. This will display all of the content that you have created for the Open Data Portal Chicago website.
To add new content, click on the "Add New Item" button located in the lower left corner of the My Content tab. This will open a new window where you can enter your article title and description. Once you have completed these fields, click on the "Submit New Item" button located in the lower right corner of the window. Your new article will be added to the index and will be available for other users to access.

If you're logging in for the first time, follow these steps:
1. Click on "Login" at the top of the page.
2. Enter your email address and password in the input fields and click on "Log In."
3. If you have an account with the Chicago Open Data Portal, you will be redirected to the main content of the website. If not, you will be asked to create an account.
4. Once you have logged in, click on "My Profile" at the top of the page to view your profile and recent activity.
Finding Your Account
To start using the Open Data Portal Chicago, you'll first need to find your account. To do this, open the portal and click on "Log In" in the upper right corner. You'll then be asked to enter your email address and password. If you have not created an account yet, you'll be prompted to do so now. Once you have logged in, you will see the "My Accounts" page. Here you can see all of the different accounts that you have access to on the portal. If you don't have an account yet, please go ahead and create one now!
Deleting Your Account
If you don't want to use the Open Data Portal Chicago anymore, you can delete your account by following these steps:
1. Log in to the Open Data Portal Chicago.
2. Click on the "Account" link in the top menu.
3. On the "Account" page, click on the "Delete My Account" link.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the deletion process.
