In this article we will be discussing how to login into your Liferay Portal instance.
The first thing you need to do is open up your browser and navigate to the URL for the instance you wish to access. You can find this information in the web console of your instance under 'Instance Details' on the left hand side. Once you have entered this address, you will be taken to a page that looks something like this:

If you are using a Liferay Portal 8.x installation, the returnUrl will be https://localhost:8443/portal/login instead. On the left hand side of this page is a form with some basic information about yourself. In order to login, all you need to do is fill out the form and click on the 'Sign In' button
Account Overview
If you've never used Liferay Portal before, first login using the username and password you created when you first installed the software. After logging in, you'll see the main home page of your portal. To get to a different section of your portal, click on one of the three tabs at the top of the page: Home, My Sites, or Services.
On the Home tab, you'll see a list of all the sites in your portal. To add a new site, click on Add Site in the Actions panel on the right side of the page. In the Add Site dialog box that pops up, give your site a name and fill in some basic information about it (site title, description, etc.), and then click Submit.
You can also manage sites by clicking on them in the Home tab's list and clicking on Site Management on the menu bar that appears. In Site Management, you can add or delete users for a site, change its password, view its content (including pages and documents), or view statistics about its traffic (views per day, average time spent on each page during peak hours, etc.).
