How to read and compare health plans
How to read and compare health plans:
When looking to purchase health insurance, it is important to be aware of the different types of plans available. Health plans can be classified according to their level of coverage, the method by which premiums are paid and the type of provider network they include.
Levels of coverage: Health plans can fall into one of four levels, bronze, silver, gold or platinum. The Bronze plan covers 60% of costs for services, the Silver plan covers 90% of costs and the Gold and Platinum plans cover 100% of costs.
Premiums: Premiums for a health plan can be paid on a monthly basis or in arrears. Monthly premiums are usually cheaper but may not cover all expenses, such as co-payments or deductibles. Arrears payments may be more expensive but will ensure that all expenses are covered in case of an illness or injury.
Provider networks: A health plan's provider network includes hospitals, doctors and other medical professionals. To find out whether a health plan includes a particular provider, check its list of in-network providers.
Type of coverage: Health plans can fall into one of three categories: general coverage

How claims are processed
There are three main ways that claims are processed through the Innovative Health Plan Provider Portal: through their secure server, through a third party processor, and through their proprietary e-claims system.
The first way is by using their secure server. This process is used when an HCPCS code is entered on their provider portal, or when using their Medicare Part B Claims Processing Toolkit (MPBCPT). This will automatically process the claim and send a notification to the provider. The notification will include the reimbursement amount and a copy of the claim form.
The second way is when a claim is processed through a third party processor. When this happens, we work with a contracted processor to handle all of the claims processing for us. The benefit of this is that it can be faster than processing through their secure server, as the claim is handled by someone else. However, there are some restrictions on who can use this option and what types of claims they can process.
The last way is by using their proprietary e-claims system. This system was developed specifically for use with the Innovative Health Plan Provider Portal. It allows providers to process their own claims
