The journey takes about four hours and costs around UGX 400 (about US$8). You can also take a public transport called the "Matatu" which travels between Kampala and other major Ugandan towns. The cost of a Matatu trip between Kampala and Fort Portal is UGX 30 (about US$0.50).
If you are coming by land, the best way to get to Fort Portal from Kampala is via the Murchison Falls National Park. The park is open from 7:00am to 5:00pm and it takes about five hours to drive through it. The entrance fee for the park is UGX 2000

Another option is to camp in the surrounding area. Camping is not allowed within 10 kilometers of the park, but there are many spots along the Victoria Nile that are perfect for camping. You will need to bring your own drinking water and food, as there is no Stores in Fort Portal town itself.
The last option is to stay in Arusha or Nairobi and drive into Fort Portal each day. This can be expensive, especially if you're traveling with a group. Luckily, there are several lodges and hotels in Arusha and Nairobi that offer discounted rates for visitors driving into Fort Portal.
